How to make an embroidered fabric bookmark

What you need
Felt or linen, floss, needle, cardstock. Keep a ruler, scissors, and scrap material nearby. Use all equipment according to its manufacturer instructions.
Make it step by step
- Cut felt 2 x 7 in and mark a light centerline.
- Backstitch a stem along the center, then stitch small satin-stitch leaves on alternate sides.
- Cut a matching backing and join both layers with blanket stitch about 1/8 in from the edge.
- Press from the back over a towel and keep the bookmark flat until dry.
Check your work
Look for even tension, secure thread ends, and clean edges. If the sample puckers or pulls out of shape, loosen the tension and test on scrap before continuing.
