How to visibly mend a hole in jeans
A fabric patch and rows of running stitch can stabilize a small denim hole while making the repair intentional.

What you need
Denim scrap, floss, needle, hoop. Keep a ruler, scissors, and scrap material nearby. Use all equipment according to its manufacturer instructions.
Make it step by step
- Wash the jeans and trim only loose threads. Cut a denim patch at least 1/2 in larger than the hole on all sides.
- Place the patch behind the hole with the grain running in the same direction as the jeans and baste it in place.
- Starting 1/4 in outside the patch, sew running-stitch lines 1/4 in apart across the repair. Do not pull so tight that the fabric puckers.
- Secure the thread on the inside; remove basting stitches and wash once to check the repair.
Check your work
Look for even tension, secure thread ends, and clean edges. If the sample puckers or pulls out of shape, loosen the tension and test on scrap before continuing.
